They are "giants" (males grow to as much as 25lbs) but gentle, making them suitable for an individual or a family with children. And, their pleasant personality allows them to get along well in most cases with other pets in your home - be they a dog, a cat, or other.
Maine Coons can be quite vocal, and are known to "converse" with family members using a special "chirp". They also have a special curiosity for water (some even will swim in water if taught early) and can learn to go for walks with you on a leash or harness.
